Datamine announces the end of elarm

Datamine advises that the elarm viral detection app will be discontinued from 5th of June, 2024.

The elarm app was a heavily used and much-valued service during the Covid-19 pandemic. Users were able to track their biometrics to create a ‘baseline’ measure. Any diversion from that baseline might indicate viral infection and elarm alerts helped users to adjust their life and travel choices to prevent the spread of infection.

elarm alternatives

If you are still using the elarm app regularly, Datamine recommends you investigate these alternative apps

  • HeartWatch (iOS)
  • Polar Beat
  • Cardiogram

All have an app interface which works on a phone, a laptop, or a tablet computer.

We know that the way you use elarm is unique to your personal health situation. Datamine understands that these alternatives may not be a direct substitute for you. However, we want you to have a robust way of monitoring your health and viral exposure into the future.

"Saved me (and my family) from sharing my Covid with them. I felt fine, but the app said my alert status was high and I should get tested. I felt fine but got a test anyway. Turns out I was positive for Covid, and I kept my mask on, and isolated myself. Thank you for this app."

New Zealand To Pilot Early Covid-19 Detection App On Border Workers

Forbes,   15 Apr 2021

New Zealand will test an app that uses smartwatch data to catch Covid-19 days before a diagnosis, health officials announced Thursday, making New Zealand the first government to launch a pilot with the technology.

New Zealand team creates world-first innovation in the fight against Coronavirus

Yahoo!,   23 Jan 2021

A New Zealand based AI company, has created ëlarm: a personal early warning indicator for viral infection, including Coronavirus. The ëlarm system overcomes what is arguably our greatest obstacle – viral spread by asymptomatic people who do not know they are infectious.

Designed to detect early stages of viruses like COVID-19.

We've developed ëlarm to calculate your wellness risk score every 4 hours based on variations from your baseline wellness range using your wearable device, and give you relevant guidelines on seeking the right medical advice. These variations can be small, and can begin changing before you feel anything.

Wearable devices can be used to track heart rate and other variables to identify changes from baseline levels. Changes in heart rate may be a sign of changes in your general state of health and wellness - for example, changes in heart rate can be related to:

  • COVID-19 (Novel Coronavirus) 1
  • Flu (Influenza) 2
  • Viral and bacterial infections 3
  • Stress and Anxiety 4,5
  • Excessive caffeine, nicotine or other stimulants 6
  • Lack of sleep, dehydration, low blood sugar 7
